What the WSI Link Shuttle Is
With the Sydney Metro line not due until mid-to-late 2027, the airport needed an interim public transport link for opening. The answer is the WSI Link — a free shuttle bus running between the terminal and St Marys station on the T1 Western Line.
It runs every 30 minutes, from 4:30am to midnight Sunday to Thursday, and until 1:00am on Friday and Saturday. It costs nothing to ride. For a traveller with light luggage heading somewhere on the Western Line, it is a sensible option.
Where the Shuttle Leaves Gaps
The shuttle solves one leg of the journey. It does not solve the leg before or after. From St Marys you still need a train, and at the other end a way home from your station — with your bags, at whatever hour you land.
It also does not cover flights outside its operating window. A 6am departure means checking in around 4:30am for international, which the first shuttle at 4:30am cannot reach in time. And a delayed late-evening arrival can miss the last service entirely.

Shuttle Bus or Private Transfer?
If you are travelling solo with a carry-on, at a civil hour, to somewhere on the Western Line, the free shuttle is excellent value — it costs nothing. We would not pretend otherwise.
If any of those three change, the calculation shifts. Two or more travellers with checked bags, a pre-dawn departure or a late arrival, or a destination that is not near a Western Line station — and the shuttle becomes one leg of a three-leg journey with luggage.
