About Sydney Airport Terminal 1
Terminal 1 (T1) is Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport's international terminal — the only one of the three terminals that handles overseas flights. Located on the western side of the airport runway (opposite T2 and T3), T1 is a large multi-level facility with departure check-in upstairs, gates beyond security, and arrivals processing on the lower level.
Every overseas airline operating to or from Sydney uses T1. This includes:
- Qantas international (USA, UK, Asia, New Zealand, Pacific)
- Middle East: Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways
- South-East Asia: Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Malaysia Airlines, Thai Airways, Vietnam Airlines
- North-East Asia: Japan Airlines, ANA, China Eastern, China Southern, Korean Air, Air China
- Europe: British Airways, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines
- North America: United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Air Canada
- Pacific: Air New Zealand, Fiji Airways, Air Niugini

STEP 1
Land & Disembark (5-10 min)
Aircraft lands and taxis to the arrival gate. Crew opens the doors and you disembark via the aerobridge to the terminal level.
STEP 2
Immigration (10-30 min)
Australian passport holders and eligible visa holders use SmartGates (faster). Other travellers queue at staffed booths. Switch your phone on after passport control if you haven't already.
STEP 3
Baggage Claim (10-20 min)
Collect your luggage from the carousel. Larger aircraft and heavily loaded flights take longer. This is when your driver typically messages you with the P7 location.
STEP 4
Customs & Walk to P7 (5-15 min)
Pass through customs. Exit the Arrivals Hall and follow signs to the priority pickup zones. P7 is the designated zone for pre-booked private transfers.
Total time from landing to P7: typically 30-60 minutes. Ram's gives you a full 60 minutes free waiting after scheduled landing — no rush, no pressure.
Departing from T1 — What to Expect
Ram's drops you at the T1 departures level, where international airline check-in desks are located. After check-in and bag drop, you'll proceed through Australian Border Force passport control, security screening, then into the international departures area.
T1 has extensive duty-free shopping, multiple dining options, and premium airline lounges including:
- Qantas International First Lounge (Qantas First, oneworld Emerald)
- Qantas International Business Lounge (Qantas Business, oneworld Sapphire)
- SkyTeam Lounge (Delta, Korean Air, China Eastern premium passengers)
- Star Alliance Business Lounge (United, Air NZ, Singapore Airlines premium)

Pickup is at zone P7, the priority pickup zone for pre-booked private transfers. After you clear customs and switch your phone on, your driver will message you via SMS or WhatsApp with the exact P7 location, plus vehicle make, colour and rego. Walk to P7 — your driver will be waiting.
